about

IFÁ (Ijexá Funk Afrobeat) from Salvador da Bahia was formed by drummer Jorge Dubman. Their name represents an African oracle and is the inventive joint of ijexá, funk and afrobeat, IFÁ, bringing a new dimension to the rich instrumental music scene from Bahia. Ijexá is a rhythm from the Afro-Brazilian religion candomblé, which is rooted in Yoruba culture, another link with Nigeria and afrobeat. With their ears in the world, the band navigates the sound routes of the black Atlantic, immersing in the universe of afrobeat, dub, reggae, funk, and the rhythm of ijexá, of the afro and afoxê blocks of Bahia, making their music a true manifesto of aesthetic and musical affirmation. With these sound elements, IFÁ affirms the importance of music as a historical link between the black cultures of the diaspora.
