Funmilayo Afrobeat Orquestra is the only Afrobeat band in the world composed only of black women and non-binary people. The project appeared in April 2019 and took to the stage in December of that same year, presenting in its repertoire authorial songs and Afrobeat classics. Funmilayo means ‘the one that came to bring joy to the family’. It was the name of one of the greatest female African activists, Funmilayo Anikulapo Kuti. Mother of Fela Kuti, the founder of Afrobeat.
